Despite the fixture not arriving with any importance for Chelsea, Paris FC entered the clash with a differing mindset. The home side were still eagerly searching for progression to the competition’s group stages, and such was possible if factors were to swing in their favour. The home side would need to claim victory over the English giants, as well as the existing requirement that Real Madrid would need to defeat BK Häcken in order for the Parisian side to qualify to the next round of proceedings. In what has been a stellar campaign in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for Paris FC, they’d need to dig their heels in in order to continue the scripture of their fairytale.

Team news for the visitors saw Aggie Beever-Jones award her inaugural appearance in the starting line up for a UEFA Women’s Champions League clash. Zećira Mušović also makes her return to the starting lineup, after a spell on the sidelines after Emma Hayes’s preferred decision to implement Hannah Hampton into her league lineups.

It would only be ten minutes before the visitors made their presence known, as Beever-Jones linked up nicely with Sjoeke Nüsken in the wide area. Nüsken wasted no time in finding the run of an advancing Jelena Čanković, before the Serbian midfielder sent a searching cross inside of the area. Her call was answered at the back-post, as Fran Kirby headed home the deadlock breaker for her second goal in two consecutive games.

The early lead allowed Chelsea to sit back with ease, controlling the tempo of the fixture with a calm authority.

The visitors continued to threaten the Paris last line, as Kirby once again found herself inside of the area with attacking intent. Kirby’s cut-back was expertly teed up for an advancing Beever-Jones, though the young English forward was unable to convert her chance in front of goal.

Paris FC started to graft openings against the Chelsea side, as the home team began to press with aggression. Julie Soyer found herself in an overlapping position in the wide attacking area, before her cross inside of the 18-yard box was hit with impressive intent. Despite making a near-perfect run inside of the area, central defender Célina Drifa Ould Hocine saw her strike fired over the woodwork.

It was devastation for the home side, as they began to see their hopes of European progression fade away immensely just minutes before the end of the first interval. Yet another excellent on-ball effort from Čanković saw her lift the ball toward the back post, this time Mia Fishel finding headed connection to double the advantage for the Blues in the French capital.

As the second half went underway, it was the home side who were seen to be on the front-foot from the outset. Cutting Chelsea’s last-line wide open, Julie Dufour found herself unmarked on the penalty spot. Despite being awarded a golden opportunity, Dufour sent her strike flying over the crossbar.

Chelsea tried their chances at widening the gap even further as the clock ran down. Nüsken charged down the field’s spine before finding the space for an advancing Beever-Jones inside of the 18-yard box. Though Beever-Jones failed to hold her run in legality, as the offside flag was raised immediately.

A blunder at the back from the home side saw the London visitors capitalise on an unkept situation in the Paris last line. A lobbing ball from Sophie Ingle was unclaimed at the back, before Guro Reiten read the situation with expertise, slotting home Chelsea’s third of the evening.

The visitors refused to take their foot off the gas, as a Norwegian link-up saw Reiten’s searching corner firmly finished by Maren Mjelde- providing a fourth moment of grievance for Paris FC.

The final day of Group D fixtures came to a close, as Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Paris FC further solidified their position at the league table’s summit. BK Häcken would too progress to the competition’s quarter finals, as the Swedish side played their way to a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid.
