Tottenham scraped victory over Leicester City this afternoon, as Matilda Vinberg’s goal in the opening minutes proved to be the difference at Brisbane Road Stadium.

The sliding finish marks Vinberg’s first goal for Tottenham Hotspur, something that the Swedish forward spoke of with great levels of excitement in her post match interview with The Halfway Line.

“It feels amazing, really. A relief to finally score my first goal and take the opportunity to show Robert [Vilahamn], the team, the supporters, that it’s important to have playing time and to start my first game at Spurs.”

The victory in East London provides the Spurs a welcomed confidence boost, as they gear up to face the Foxes in the semi final stages of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup month.

Vinberg reflected on the deeper positives of the win, expressing “[It’s] really important to have a clean sheet, but also winning today is really important for the league as well, the table. I think it’s a good way to face them today and see what we can develop and improve next game when we face them at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”

Finding her feat in North London since signing on during the winter transfer window, Vinberg spoke on what it has been like adjusting to life at Hotspur Way. She said, “It’s been tough in the beginning to settle in to the team, finding a place and everything around it. It’s finally starting to feel much much better, the team and the girls have been amazing in helping me to settle in.”

As she continues to settle into life in the capital, Vinberg says“it’s been wonderful, really enjoying it. I feel like this is my home finally, now I have a new place. Everyone is so nice- so it feels like I have been here for a longer time than I actually have.”

Vinberg also spoke of Robert Vilahamn in high praise, expressing how helpful he has been during her adjustment period in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

She expressed,“He knew me before I joined the club. So for me it was really easy to come here, and knowing that it’s going to take time. Robert was really calm and clear with what kind of process he wanted to do with me as a player, and put no stress on me at all. He said it’s going to take time to settle into moving and to create new relationships with the girls.”

Speaking to Vinberg on her move over from Hammarby IF in the Damallsvenskan, the forward reflected on how the growing Swedish contingent in the Barclays Women’s Super League has proved increasingly helpful to her as she adjusts to life in London.

“It’s been great coming from the Swedish league, and also having some Swedish players in the WSL. Also having a coach who is Swedish as well, it’s been really easy. It’s a safe thing to have in the team, and to also know that you can talk to them in your own language, I think that’s one of the biggest decisions I made when I moved.”

As Tottenham continue to take strides under the management of Robert Vilahamn, Vinberg spoke on how the Spurs continue to set the tone for the new era of football being brought to North London. The forward expressed, “We’re taking steps all the time. Every single game we are improving in different ways. It’s a process, it’s going to take time, but I think we can definetley be a top team in the future.”

Tottenham Hotspur are back in action next weekend, as they travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
