Speaking to Ona Batlle in her post match interview after the victory at Stamford Bridge, the Spanish forward spoke in pride of reaching her first European final, as Barcelona also make it their fourth consecutive year amidst the final pairing.

“The truth is- it’s something special to be a finalist with Barça. What I’ve always wanted is to go to the final. It’ll be my first final, but most importantly, it’ll be the fourth consecutive final for the club and that’s also super important.”

Barcelona entered yesterday’s fixture chasing a one-goal deficit, as a Erin Cuthbert special at Estadi Olïmpic Lluis Companys saw Chelsea head into the second leg with the one-goal advantage.

Speaking on how her team approached the challenge of the reverse fixture, Batlle said “We were calm with our mentality. Of course, at the end of the day we knew that we had to score the first goal and then with the opportunities, the second goal would come. But like I said, we were calm and knew that it depended on us having a good game.”

It’s been a stellar 12 months for Spanish Women’s Football, as Barcelona brought home the UWCL silverware not long before the Spanish National Team were reigned World Champions at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Digesting what another final on the biggest stage in Europe means for Women’s Football in Spain, Batlle expressed “I think that most importantly, we’re in a very good moment for women’s football in Spain. It’s something really beautiful and I think before anything else, we have to enjoy it because the best moments don’t come around often – so it’s about enjoying it and wanting more. I always want more, and I believe that we have a brilliant future ahead of us.”

Leaving a final note on who she would like to face in Bilbao, Batlle was firm in her answer- “I don’t know if it’ll be Lyon or PSG in the final, but we wait for them with plenty of excitement and with the ambition of being able to win.”
