Chelsea legend Fran Kirby announces her departure from the club at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

Kirby joined the Blues from Reading in 2015, and has since made 205 appearances for the London club.

The England international leaves the club a well-decorated legend, having added 15 trophies to her cabinet during her stint with the Blues.

Chelsea Football Club general manager, Paul Green, spoke on Kirby’s departure in an official club statement:

“Fran has been a hugely important player for us over the last nine years. She has played an integral role in the club’s success, winning 15 trophies and earning numerous individual accolades.

She is the club’s leading goalscorer in the modern era and leaves Chelsea with legendary status. We sincerely thank Fran for her contributions and wish her well for the future.”

A video message to Chelsea fans was posted by Kirby herself, in which the midfielder thanked the Blue and White army for their support during her time at the club.

“Chelsea fans- this is from my heart to you. I came to this club as a young girl with big dreams. After 9 years, I’m leaving having lived out those amazing dreams in front of you.”

The Blues will bid farewell to Kirby in their final home game of the Barclays Women’s Super League season this Sunday at Kingsmeadow. Chelsea have three league fixtures remaining before Kirby’s departure come season’s close.
