It was history made at Wembley Stadium for Manchester United, as a dominant 4-0 display over Tottenham Hotpsur saw the Red Devils fly home to their first piece of silverware in the top flight.
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner spoke to the media following the enormous victory in front of a sold out Wembley Stadium. When asked whether the trophy serves as a sense of relief after what has been a difficult campaign in the league, Skinner was firm in his answer- “Never relief.”
“I’m happy with the job I’m doing at Manchester United. If we believe that we should be winning everything every second, then we are not in the right space right now- that’s what we want to aspire to be. To add this [FA Cup], gives the players the experience to build on.
We are not happy with where we are finishhing or where we will finish in the league, but to be history makers for this fantastic club, for our fans, I think it means more than relief. It’s actually a really exciting moment.”

Securing silverware places a positive light on the campaign, as Marc Skinner expressed that it still ‘feels like a really positive space to be in’.
“We know as a club that we want to be winning titles, we want to be winning things. For us I’ve just been really excited about the energy that is driving internally. I think it won’t be long before we are talked about in the elite winning women’s team that we’ve started now, hopefully. It’s exciting, and I know what’s coming and it’s an exciting time to be a Manchester United fan.”

“I want to give Tottenham a lot of credit for the run that they’ve had, the season that they’ve had. If they use it like we had to use it last year, then it will only serve them for future successes I’m sure. So congratulations to them.”
In terms of what is next for Manchester United, Skinner was firm in his statement that there is still plenty of work to do for this Red Devils side as the 2023/24 now draws to a close.
“Those are springboards you should use. Like there is the disappointment of last year, but we have to use that springboard to make sure this year wasn’t one off. We have to compete better in the league as a basis for us to be up there again. I believe that we will do that. This has to be the impetus and the springboard for us to know now that we can deliver success for this fantastic club.”
Manchester United will be at home for one final game of the Barclays Women’s Super League season, as they face Chelsea this Saturday at Old Trafford. Two trophy lifts may be on the horizon, as Manchester United will look to bring their FA Cup silverware back to the North West, whilst Chelsea run red hot favourites to claim the league title on the final day.
