The Cityzens have signed the forward firepower on a three-year deal. Miedema now joins the impressive ranks of the City forward line alongside the talents of Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly, Mary Fowler, and prolific goalscorer, Bunny Shaw.

Speaking to her new club in regards to her new deal, Miedema expressed that “It feels really nice to be in blue, I’m really excited to be here and to get started and hopefully win a lot of things together.”

Words from Miedema

The decision to sign with Manchester City was heavily philosophy-based, as Miedema weighed up her options with focus when choosing the Mancunian side.

“I think having thought really hard about my future after leaving Arsenal, the main thing that popped up was that I wanted to be at a team who are playing good football. I think in women’s football right now City have a clear philosophy, they obviously did well last season. If I look at the way I want to play, it really suits it. In the end, it’s obviously a massive bonus as well that I stay in the WSL. I think it was the best fit for me.”

“I’m only 27 obviously, I haven’t played as much football as I would have wished over the past two years but I think and hope my best years are still to come and I really hope that’s going to be here at City. I hope I’m going to be able to help the team as much as I can do. I am just really excited to be part of the team and for the girls to hopefully help me and get me back to my best. If I get back to my best again then we can achieve really nice things together.”

The aforementioned forward options make Manchester City rich for goalscoring and playmaking talent. Speaking on her new teammates with excitement, Miedema expressed:

“Looking forward to the future, I’ve always said I want to play with the best players in the world and I think City have got that. Attacking-wise, they’ve got so many different players, different qualities to that again. If you look back at last season, you can see the qualities Bunny has, Lauren Hemp, Chloe Kelly obviously play in the England national team as well.

I’ve played with Jill for so many years, so I’m pretty sure we’ll find each other straight away again. And the depth of the team is only growing. If we can get the right combination in that.”

As the inevitable outcome of clubs piling in a line to sign the Dutch international began to flow through the doors, Miedema expressed that a large factor that went into her decision to sign for Manchester City came in their shared ambitions.

“After the last couple of years, my biggest wish and hope is I’m going to be able to play a full season again. I am feeling really good so I’m looking forward to that. The reason I chose City is because they have the same ambitions as me. They want to win the league and titles. That really applies to what I want as well.

I think over the last couple of years the development has been really good. They’ve got a clear philosophy on how they want to play and I really think we can take this team to the next level. I’m really excited to see what that next level actually brings us.”
