Stokes joins the Magpies after a nine-year tenure with Manchester City, during which time the defender gathered 69 international caps with the senior England side.

Speaking to the club, Stokes expressed “I still have so much to give on the pitch and I’m excited to bring my experience to a club with such
big ambitions. From the moment I spoke to the club, I felt valued and knew this was the right place for me to contribute to an exciting, new project.”

The statement signing comes only a day after the signing of Claudia Moan, proving that the newly-promoted Newcastle mean serious business upon their arrival to the Barclays Women’s Championship.
