Olympic hosts France were sensationally knocked out of their own tournament last night in Nantes, losing 1-0 to Brazil in a tight Olympic contest.
In a game that was stop-start, France couldn’t get the better of Brazil’s mind games and themselves, as Gabi Portilho’s winner eight minutes from time left the crowd in Brittany stunned.
Here’s how we rate the performance of every Les Bleus player who stepped out into the Nantes night.

It was a big call by Herve Renard to change his goalkeeper, and it didn’t pay off. Picaud didn’t have much to do, but when she did, it wasn’t convincing. Poor clearances and nerves certainly played their part.
Elisa de Almeida 4/10
Especially in the second half, de Almeida couldn’t control the threat coming down the wing. Kerolin did well against her one-on-one, and then of course, she was part of that mix-up that led to the Brazilian goal. Subbed off 90th minute.
Griedge Mbock 5/10
Mbock was quietly having a good game in the first half, especially after she rattled the crossbar. However, when Brazil started to gain confidence in the second half, Mbock began to falter. She was part of the mix-up for the winning goal, and it’ll be a night of ‘what could have beens’ for the PSG defender.
Wendie Renard 5/10

Out of defence, her passing was loose and picked up on by the Brazilian attack. A very rare poor night for someone who’s normally head and shoulders above the rest.
Selma Bacha 7/10
One of the only French players who can come out of tonight with a bit of credit. Whenever Bacha was on the ball, her first thought was forward. Could she get it to an attacker? If not, how far could she take the ball up field? The Lyon wing-back showcased tonight why she’s one of the better players in her position.
Sandie Toletti 5/10
It never felt like the French midfield had much control during this game. When they did, the passes were often stray. In a game like this, someone like Toletti, a defensive minded midfielder, perhaps wasn’t necessary, and France needed more of an attacking threat from the middle of the park. Subbed off 85th minute.
Grace Geyoro 4/10

This wasn’t the case tonight. The game was there for the midfield if they were ready to take it, and unfortunately, they weren’t.
Sakina Karchaoui 5/10
The question will be, would a player more experienced have dealt better with that penalty situation? We will never know, but Karchaoui never recovered from it. It might have played on her mind for the rest of the game, but we will simply never know.
Delphine Cascarino 8/10
France’s best player on the pitch by a country mile. Cascarino has an aura about her when she attacks. She’s so mercurial and she always seems to know which positions to pick up. With the ball at her feet, Cascarino is magical, and she proved that again tonight. Now she’ll prepare for her new adventure in the NWSL.
Marie-Antoinette Katoto 5/10
Apart from that one header in the second half, Katoto was another who was nowhere to be seen. Again, Brazil pinpointed her as a threat, and both centre halves were onto her at all times. She needed more help from those around her tonight.
Sandy Baltimore 6/10
There is something about Baltimore. When she stands up her marker and darts away towards goal, it gets you leaning forward. You’re intrigued about her next move. She did that again tonight, but it’s that next move which wasn’t quite as sharp as it was against New Zealand. Subbed off 69th minute.
Kadi Diani 5/10

The winger, who is normally so imperious, looked like the shell of a player. Having started so brightly against Colombia, Diani’s performances have really gone down since then.
Eugenie Le Somer N/A
Subbed on 85th minute. Wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make an impact.
Kenza Dali N/A
Subbed on 90th minute. Wasn’t on the pitch long enough to make an impact.
