Brazil shocked the world on Tuesday night, as they defeated World Champions Spain 4-2 on the French Riviera.

After a gritty, and sometimes petulant, performance against France, this display from Brazil was anything but. Passionate, ruthless, creative, this was Brazil at their trademark best, and they fully deserved their win.

Here’s how we rate the performance of every Samba Girl who took to the pitch out in Marseille.

Lorena 9/10

How Lorena hasn’t been subbed off this tournament due to injury will be discussed for decades, but when she’s on the field, she is remarkable. Like a cat in between the sticks, she dives everywhere, comes out for everything, and especially towards the end, kept Brazil ahead.

Lauren 8/10

Brazil’s defence was outstanding, and Lauren played a part in that. Being on the outside of the three in defence, she had the difficult task of restricting Mariona Caldentey, but she did so brilliantly, and the Arsenal winger could do nothing against Lauren. Subbed off 78th minute.

Tarciane 9/10

Not for the first time this tournament, Tarciane from a defensive perspective was excellent. Yet, what was noticeable in this performance is how good she is to bring the ball out and finding others to start counter attacks.

Thaís 8/10

Lauren had to mark Caldentey, but Thaís had to mark Salma Paralluelo, and like her teammate, she did that job tremendously. Against that speed it’s often difficult to win battles, but the defender lost hardly any.

Yasmim 8/10

When we talk about Yasmim’s performance, the first thing that will be brought up will be that cross for the second goal. It was like something that was conjured up in a sorcerer’s cauldron, simply magical. Worked tirelessly up and down the flank.

Ludmila 9/10

Chicago Red Stars are currently seventh in the NWSL, but if they get the Ludmila who played in this game, they will be fighting near the top in no time! A truly astonishing display from the winger, who showed off her blistering speed, her laser vision passing, and her eye for goal. If she had scored in this one, it would have been a perfect performance. Subbed off 57th minute.

Yaya 9/10

When your midfield opponent is Aitana Bonmatí, it’s quite easy to be overshadowed, but that didn’t stop Yaya. She was so composed in the middle, and looked like a spider at times, stretching her limbs out everywhere and just stealing balls away from everyone. A truly inspirational performance.

Angelina 8/10

Angelina must have been the fourth or fifth Brazilian to wear the captain’s armband during these Olympic Games, but like others before, she put in a performance of a true leader. Wasn’t afraid to defend and do the dirty work, but also was capable going forward and feeding balls in behind or down the channels. Subbed off 57th minute.

Gabi Portilho 9/10

Scored the winner against France but stepped up to another level tonight. Portilho often cut an isolated figure up front, but the way she held the ball up, turned her marker and ran, was mesmerising to watch. A stunning display from one of the players of the tournament.

Jheniffer 7/10

Forward will always be judged on how much they score or assist, and Jhennifer could, and probably should, have had a few of those tonight. However, her defensive work, for a winger, was outstanding, and she really help to keep the Spaniards out. Subbed off 69th minute.

Priscila 7/10

There is a player in Priscila. The way she dribbles and the way she moves in and around others is unique. Not many can do what she can. It’s just that final element that is letting her down currently. But still, for someone who is 19, to do that on this stage is outstanding. Subbed off 76th minute.

Duda 7/10

Subbed on 57th minute. Picked up where Angelina left off in the midfield, and even when she had Alexia Putellas and Patri Guijarro around her, she didn’t falter. She rose to the challenge and succeeded.

Adriana 8/10

Subbed on 57th minute. Being a Brazilian attacker wasn’t fun in the second half, but Adriana was such a useful outlet as the game wore on, and she managed to grab herself a goal with some incredible determination.

Ana Vitoria 6/10

Subbed on 69th minute. Perhaps didn’t see that ball as much as the other substitutes did but helped contribute towards the defensive effort that ultimately got Brazil over the line.

Gabi Nunes 6/10

Subbed on 76th minute. Much like Ana Vitoria, didn’t have as much of an impact from an attacking perspective, but from a defensive one, she certainly held her own against wave after wave of Spanish pressure.

Kerolin 8/10

Subbed on 76th minute. The true definition of an impact sub. Kerolin was not afraid to disrupt play and get in between the lines, and of course, her goal was incredibly well taken, and ultimately, booked Brazil’s spot in the final.
