Crystal Palace will continue their Barclays Women’s Super League campaign on Sunday, when the side travel to Merseyside to face Matt Beard’s Liverpool outfit at St Helen’s Stadium. Head coach Laura Kaminski spoke to the media on Thursday as she looked ahead to the Eagles’ next mission.
Kaminski’s South London side will look to bounce back after last weekend’s narrow 1-0 defeat against Brighton, which saw them put in a promising shift on home turf at VBS Community Stadium.
First providing an update on team news, the Eagles head coach did not specify any expected absences ahead of the weekend’s fixture. She said, “We’re in a good place, albeit it’s very difficult to get a perfect, fully fit squad, week in, week out, because we train at high intensity, and obviously we’re recovering from the from the weekend before,” Kaminski confessed.
Stepping up
The Crystal Palace boss frequently refers to measures being taken behind the scenes to help bring her squad up to speed with the more experienced Barclays Women’s Super League sides.
Asked by The Halfway Line about these measures, and how effective they have been thus far, the manager asserted, “For us in house at this moment in time, we’re working collectively on our improvements as a team. Measures that can be as simple forms, in terms of shots, goals, etc. But there are more complex measures which which we can use to dig deep into the detail of tactical approaches to the game.”
Kaminski delved further into Crystal Palace’s journey from the Barclays Women’s Championship up into the Barclays Women’s Super League, and how the former helped prepare them for this weekend’s endeavour.
She said, “We’ve shifted from a focus on those that have done it before to now what we look like, because we started to find our own identity as a team. I think it’s important to really push forward with that now.”
Battling Beard’s Reds
Providing her assessment of Liverpool as the international break fast approaches, Kaminski stated “I expect a really tough game, but nothing that the players are not used to. I think they’re a well organised side that plays some very attractive football with a strong formation.”
The players will disassemble after the clash with the Reds due to the upcoming international break. Kaminski said that she believes the break will provide her side with “an opportunity to reflect” on their journey so far.
Crystal Palace will be hosted by Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League this Sunday at St Helen’s Stadium. Proceedings will head underway at 14:00 BST and can be streamed live on YouTube.
