Everton return to Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) action this Sunday, when they will travel to Tottenham Hotspur.

Head coach Brian Sørensen spoke to the media ahead of the fixture, affirming “We are good enough to get something from Spurs.”

‘I am not worried’ says Sørensen in spite of injuries

Providing an update on the fitness of his squad heading into this weekend, Sørensen said “We have a couple that have question marks. Heather Payne had tough games against Wales and has a little niggle.”

“Veatriki Sarri has been sick and did not train yesterday. Elise [Stenevik] has been back in training. Karen [Holmgaard] is back on the pitch but still not ready,” he continued.

The manager professed faith in his squad, maintaining “We have three games coming up where we can certainly get some points. I am not worried about anything, I would like to have some more players in but we are where we are and we will be looking to get some more points.”

Everton ‘back to business’ after derby day delight

Prior to the international break, the Toffees took to the stage at Goodison Park to beat Merseyside rivals Liverpool 1-0.

Reflecting on the victory, Sørenson declared: “We have many games in front of us and a job to do. But, it was good to get the three points, and it is now back to business. We must get our heads down.”

Everton currently occupy the ninth spot in the WSL table, and have the chance to add more points to their existing six this weekend.

“We do not look at the table, we look at the performance and where the team is at. Many times, I have been happy with the performance,” the head coach insisted.

Spurs ‘have an attacking threat’ despite defensive shortfalls

Looking back on previous encounters with Robert Vilahamn’s side, Sørensen explained “We tied with them [Spurs] twice last season. It is going to be a tough challenge – they have very good players. We will try and see if we can hurt them. They have attacking threat, they have invested a lot over the last couple of years.”

Like the Toffees, Tottenham have not an ideal start to the season. Vilahamn’s outfit have conceded the most goals of any WSL side thus far. Sørensen’s Blues are just a point behind seventh-place Spurs approaching Sunday’s meeting, and will look to capitalise on the North London club’s weaknesses.

“We have had really good sessions [during the international break],” Sorensøn said, “There has been smaller sessions but you can give more detail. We have a really positive camp. Inside, we are calm. We know the job we have to do and we know that we have the players that are capable of that.”

Everton are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL at the Gaughan Group Stadium on Sunday, with proceedings getting underway at 13:00 (GMT).
