Carla Ward has been appointed as the new head coach of the Republic of Ireland, the FAI has confirmed.
The former Aston Villa manager has taken post in Ireland, following the Football Association of Ireland’s (FAI) decision against extending the contract of Eileen Gleeson.
Ward departed the Barclays Women’s Super League at the end of the 2023/24 season, and has since been out of action. The 41-year-old will take charge of the team effective immediately, and will lead Ireland up until the conclusion of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The ex-Villans boss has managerial experience with both Sheffield United and Birmingham City, and will bring a plethora of expertise to the Girls in Green.
