Republic of Ireland centre back Caitlin Hayes has joined Brighton from Celtic after the south coast club fought off competition from Everton and clubs in both Spain and USA for her signature. The 29-year old had a year and a half remaining on her deal with Celtic meaning that a transfer fee was required to ensure she swapped her green hoops for blue. Hayes arrives for an undisclosed fee.

Hayes arrived at Celtic in 2020 joining from Lewes and promptly helped the Glasgow giants to their first silverware in 11 years, it was her strike in the Scottish Cup Final in 2021 that made the difference. Since then Hayes has helped Celtic win multiple pieces of silverware including the Scottish League title, the centre back also featured for Celtic in the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season with the club making the group stages for the first time.

Hayes has represented the Republic of Ireland on 17 occasions, scoring two goals. She joins a Brighton side enjoying a positive first season under head coach Dario Vidošić with the club in 5th place and still in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Vidošić spoke on the signing, “We’re delighted to welcome Caitlin to the club. She’s an experienced player who has competed at many levels in the game, including cup finals and the Champions League. She’s progressed well in her time in Scotland and we’re looking forward to seeing her compete in the WSL with Brighton.”
Hayes arrives at Brighton at an opportune moment with the south coast club suffering a difficult re-start after the winter break.
