Manchester City vice captain Laia Aleixandri is said to be departing the club for a homecoming return to Spain to join FC Barcelona upon the expiration of her contract this summer.
As reported by Maria Tikas, the Cityzens defender is set to sign for the Champions League holders upon the expiration of her contract on July 1st. Aleixandri made the move to Manchester on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 from Atletico Madrid where she spent five years plying her trade.
Aleixandri jumps the City ship during a turbulent time, after a Manchester derby draw at Old Trafford confirmed the club’s failure to qualify in the WSL’s Champions League spots. Another trophyless season for the Cityzens put the club under immense pressure to find a permanent solution for Gareth Taylor’s departure- currently bandaided by interim head coach Nick Cushing.
