Vfl Wolfsburg today announced the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Sophia Kleinherne. The 25 year old joins the club on a three year deal set to run until 30th June 2028. The German international will wear the number four shirt for the She-Wolves.
Kleinherne is Wolfsburg’s second signing of the Summer under returning head coach Stephan Lerch. The German giants also signed Norway international Guro Bergsvand from Brighton just a couple of days ago. Bergsvand was captain of Brighton last season and enjoyed an impressive stint at the club on the South Coast of England.
She was a mainstay in the Brighton defence helping the Seagulls to an exceptional fifth place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season. Bergsvand joins the German club on a free transfer.
Wolfsburg have made early steps towards bolstering a defence that cost them dearly in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season, losing 10-2 to FC Barcelona on aggregate in the quarter finals. After Wolfsburg were able to secure Champions League football for next season over rivals Frankfurt, the allure of Europe’s top competition seems to have been understandably key in Kleinherne’s decision.
Both are likely to be included in their respective nations UEFA European Championship squads for this Summer. The German has 37 caps to her name while her new centre back partner Bergsvand has amassed 41 for Norway.
