Spanish defender Laia Aleixandri has signed for Barcelona, following her confirmed departure from Women’s Super League club Manchester City.

The 24-year-old signed for the Cityzens in the summer of 2022, going on to make 88 appearances for the Manchester side during her three-year tenure.

Aleixandri’s new deal with the Liga F champions will see her remain at the club until 2029. The defender returns to Spain, having developed with Barcelona during her youth career.

Barcelona will welcome the centre-back with open arms following the confirmed departure of Ingrid Engen, rumoured to be joining Champions League rivals Olympique Lyon (OL Lyonnes).
