France exclude Renard and Le Sommer
Still searching for their first major tournament honour, France have made the bold decision to leave out captain Wendie Renard and all time top goalscorer Eugenie Le Sommer from the Euro 2025 squad.
The pair were left out of France’s recent nations league campaign, something head coach Laurent Bonadei maintained was “not a spur of the moment” choice.
“When I announced that everyone had a chance, that no one was indispensable, in my mind it wasn’t just about giving young players a chance but also players who had suffered psychologically after the Olympic Games and making sure that everyone was involved,” Bonadei expressed.
Renard, who has made 168 appearances for France, will certainly be a key absentee in the leadership group this summer.

Lauren James fit to join as England name forward-heavy lineup
Following the news of Mary Earps’ retirement, shockwaves continued to flood through the England camp after Millie Bright’s decision to omit herself from squad selection, as well as Fran Kirby’s decision to draw a line under her international career.
Kirby, who has made 77 appearances for the Lionesses, announced her international retirement following reports that Sarina Wiegman had already decided to exclude the English midfielder from this summer’s camp. This decision from the England head coach has left the Lionesses with thin midfield options, something fans will be hoping doesn’t haunt them in Switzerland.
