Lineth Beerensteyn is back in training with the Netherlands. With that news, Dutch women’s football fans will have breathed a tempered sigh of relief.

The Halfway Line has the story as Netherlands prepare to embark on their UEFA EURO 2025 campaign.

A green light to train with the first team

The Wolfsburg striker had a very good season with her Bundesliga club, scoring 17 goals in 20 matches, earning her the golden boot. But Beerensteyn was unable to play in Wolfsburg’s last game of the season due to injury and carried that injury with her into the UEFA Nations League international window in July. She was also unable to join up with the Dutch squad when the preparations for the Euros started.

Shanice van de Sanden travelled with the Oranje Leeuwinnen as a reserve player. Presumably she would have stepped in for Beerensteyn if the green light could not be given for her return to match action before the tournament. But on Tuesday the Hague native trained with the first team for the first time this window. And was able to repeat the feat on Wednesday training with the team once more. It is unknown if she completed the full training session as media were only allowed to attend the first part of training.

National team head coach Andries Jonker will also have to deal with safely guiding Vivianne Miedema into match action after an injury that kept her out since early April. Miedema did play 60 minutes in the Leeuwinnen’s send off match against Finland and scored two goals. It is safe to say that it will be interesting to see how the Netherlands will manage these fitness conundrums. Netherlands play their first match against Wales on Saturday in Luzern.
