Norway booked their spot in the knockouts before the heroic host nation Switzerland broke Icelandic hearts, sending them home from Euro 2025.

Yet to have a draw at Women’s Euro 2025, two more teams were on the winners list as matchday two kicked off with Group A.

Barcelona star Caroline Graham Hansen stole the show in Sion as Norway clinched a 2-1 victory over Finland and book their spot in the quarter finals.

Over in Bern, host nation Switzerland needed a point in order to bring a pulse to their Euros campaign, and they did just that. Two goals late in the game put the host nation up 2-0, leaving the nation in a state of elation.

Norway book Euro 2025 quarter final spot thanks to Graham Hansen heroics

A tight contest was played out in Stade Tourbillon, with the Swiss mountains setting the most poetic back drop for the football on show.

Finland got off to a tragic start, as an own goal from West Ham United’s Eva Nyström, forced by Graham Hansen’s excellent charge into the box, put Norway ahead in the opening minutes. Despite the slow start, the Finnish outfit did not waver and continued to fight.

The contest was far from over as 21-year-old Oona Sevenius managed to bring the scores back level in the 32nd minute, putting Norway’s confusing vulnerabilities on show once more.

However, Finland’s hearts were broken in the closing minutes of the fixture as Barcelona forward Graham Hansen stole the show once more. Swivelling around her defender inside of the area with composure, Graham Hansen then sent a floating chip over the goalkeeper’s head and into the bottom corner.

The victory in Sion means that Norway have officially booked their spot in the quarter final stages of the competition. Finland are not done yet, but will need to take all three points from Switzerland in order to progress through the group stages.

Host nation heroes Switzerland have the nation in elation

A close defeat to Norway on the opening day of the tournament certainly broke Swiss hearts, but the squad were far from ready to give up on their Euro 2025 dream.

Despite the fact that the contest against Iceland remained at a stalemate until late in the game, it was Switzerland who dominated the field of play. Growing concerns surrounded the fact that we saw the same show play out against Norway, before the squad ran out of the legs to get the job done.

However, tonight was a different story. The Swiss seemed to grab the lead in the 29th minute as a looping header from Svenja Fölmli floated into the back of the net, all before an intervention from VAR ruled the goal out for a foul in the build up.

The contest remained tight up until the 75th minute, when Sydney Schertenleib placed a splitting pass through to Géraldine Reuteler who slipped her strike across the goalkeeper and into the far left corner.

Switzerland weren’t done yet, eager to extend their lead when they launched forward on the counter-attack. Finding substitute Alayah Pilgrim in some space, the Roma forward cut her touch across her body before placing a booming strike into the bottom corner to send the nation into a state of euphoria. The Icelandic defender’s deflection helped the strike find it’s destination, and equally sending Iceland out of the tournament.

The 2-0 victory for Switzerland means that the side will only need a point in their final group stage fixture against Finland, due to having a superior goal difference.
