Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bring a new spark to north London ahead of the new WSL season under head coach Martin Ho.

After a deflating 11th-place league finish and the sacking of former head coach Robert Vilahamn, Tottenham will be a side in search of redemption ahead of the new Women’s Super League (WSL) season.

New head coach Martin Ho steering the ship

Following a fall-off finish last season, Tottenham Hotspur relieved former head coach Robert Vilahamn of his duties. Spurs finished in 11th-place on the league table, a far cry from their sixth-placed campaign of 2025/26.

Ho arrives in north London with prior WSL experience, having played an instrumental role in Manchester United’s title race campaign in the 2022/23 season. Ho then moved to Norway to take up the head coach role of SK Brann, leading them to their first Women’s Champions League campaign and a quarter-final finish.

Tottenham defender Charli Grant spoke exclusively to The Halfway Line, saying that Ho has “been a lot more encouraging and brought a lot more intensity to what we’re used to. I think what we’ve had at Tottenham, he’s just building on even more so.”

Key players for Tottenham ahead of the WSL season

Tottenham striker Martha Thomas will be looking to return to her best after a dry spell saw her score zero goals during the entire 2024/25 WSL campaign. The Scottish striker was down on luck last season, but has a strong history of starting off a new era in style. Upon her arrival in north London in summer of 2023, she scored six goals in the opening month of the WSL season and was back at her very best after a bitter tasting departure from Manchester United. The turn of the tide under Ho will hopefully bring back Thomas’ goalscoring power.

Eveliina Summanen is a key player for Spurs and someone who is often overlooked within the squad’s lineup. The Finnish midfielder brings strength and integrity to the Tottenham midfield – an area they will be hopeful to revive this season. When she is played in the deeper role, she works to anchor the midfield and allow Tottenham’s attackers to push on and create. Summanen is an underrated aerial threat, ranking in the top 15% for aerial duals won in a pool of midfielders across the game’s top eight women’s leagues.

Olivia Holdt is someone who made an instant impression upon her arrival in north London. Whipping a free kick into the top corner on her Spurs debut set the tone of a player who is eager to bring flair and confidence to a side that needs it most. The young attacker is strong on the ball, fast on her feet and can make something out of nothing. Her skillset reminds me of Lauren James, and that is almost the highest honour of comparison.

Tottenham Hotspur WSL predictions

After a disastrous campaign in the WSL, it should only be up from here for Tottenham Hotspur. The side will face the tough task of West Ham United on the opening weekend, but a strong performance against their London rivals can set the tone for the season ahead.

One of Robert Vilahamn’s primary concerns during his tenure at Tottenham was that the gap between themselves and the league’s top four is too large, and that is something that continues to prove true. As the prospect of WSL silverware is an impossible task, the side will be eager to reach the latter stages of the domestic cup competitions. Since the bar of 2024/25 is set so low, any advancements will be considered a success for Spurs.

At the end of the day, it is true that Spurs are yet to boast convincing depth, and there seems to be a great risk that an injury to captain Bethany England may be enough to derail the hopes of the campaign ahead. However, with a new head coach, a strong ideology and a fair bit of luck, Tottenham may see themselves on an upwards trajectory once more.
