Tottenham head coach Martin Ho reflects on a ‘proud’ first season with Spurs in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
Tottenham secured their highest ever points total a fortnight ago after securing a 2-1 victory against the London City Lionesses, which took their tally to 33 points.
Ahead of the final day of the 2025/26 campaign, Martin Ho was asked to reflect on his maiden season as head coach of Tottenham in the WSL.
“It’s been positive in numerous aspects, on the pitch, off the pitch, there’s been a lot of learnings and a lot of developments”, the Spurs head coach praised. “It’s given us really strong foundations to build from in the future. So, pleased how it’s gone.
“But finishing fifth doesn’t win you anything”, Ho pressed. “It doesn’t give you anything and we want to win, we want to compete, we want to win trophies. But, [there is] lot of pride and I’m really, really proud of the players in terms of what they’ve done, and the staff. But, we still have a lot of work to do.”
When asked about the areas in which he and his team are focusing on for next season, Ho highlighted the depth of the squad and consistency in performances as areas of priority to improve even further.
“We’ve had parts where we’ve performed for maybe 45, or I think Manchester United at the [Tottenham Hotspur] Stadium was probably the one where we performed for large parts well, but getting more consistency in that part of our game, then also evolving and growing in mentality that if we want to compete at that top level that we have to psychologically be strong.”
The Tottenham manager also confirmed that most of the summer transfer window had been completed already, as they look to prepare for next season.
“A lot of our business is done, so we’ve been proactive in the window already”, Ho confirmed. “We’ve been really proficient and really selective of what we want, we’ve made sure that we’re going to add value to the group in terms of the quality that we bring in, in certain positions, and I know that we’re going to have to lift our levels going into next season.”
Martin Ho hails Brighton as ‘one of the best footballing teams in the league’
Tottenham will now prepare for the final fixture of the WSL season, where they prepare to face an in-form Brighton & Hove Albion side. The Seagulls are in scintillating form recently, having taken down league winners Manchester City, as well as Arsenal in the FA Cup. Dario Vidošić’s side made history last week, booking their spot in the club’s very first Women’s FA Cup final.
“They’ve always been a good team, they have a wonderful squad, they have wonderful players, they’ve got some of the best”, the Tottenham head coach praised. “They are well organised, very fluid with the ball, probably one of the best footballing teams in the league, and I think they’ve started to really pick up some momentum at the back end of the season.
“I know this weekend is going to be a tough game, but it’ll be a wonderful spectacle for women’s football because both teams want to play, both teams want to press, and I think it’ll give us an opportunity to have a wonderful game of football.”
Ho confirmed that the squad that faced London City Lionesses last time out in the league will be available for selection this weekend. “As we were [from our game with London City Lionesses],” he told the media on Friday morning. “The long-term [injuries] are still out and everyone else is back in the fold.”
Martin Ho praises ‘wonderful person’ Olga Ahtinen as she signs a new long-term contract with Tottenham
After arriving in the summer of 2023, her first venture into English football, Olga Ahtinen has played a pivotal role in helping Spurs since, as she helped them reach their first FA Cup final in 2023/24 and now securing Tottenham’s highest ever points total. The Halfway Line asked Ho how pleased he was to see a player like Ahtinen commit her long-term future to the club.
“Olga is a wonderful person first and foremost, and that’s the key part for me”, Ho commended. “But, training-wise, exceptional. One of the best people I’ve worked with in terms of a footballer capacity, as a human, as a professional.
“The way she conducts herself, the way she sets example and leads by example in how she does things, not just with words but with action. I think there’s a lot more in Olga that’s to come. We need to make sure that we continually challenge Olga to push her levels and we are doing that, then making sure that we give her a safe space where she feels comfortable, confident and motivated to perform.”
Brighton vs Tottenham kicks off at 1pm BST, with it being shown live on Sky Sports.
