Switzerland midfielder Vallotto signs for Wolfsburg, joining the German giants from Swedish side Hammarby.
Smilla Vallotto’s contract with the Frauen Bundesliga outfit runs until June 30, 2028, and she will wear the number 14.
The Swiss international joins the She-Wolves after two years in Stockholm with Hammarby. She made 58 appearances for the Bajen, including seeven Champions League appearances. She registered seven goals for the side in her two year stint, and 13 assists.
Vallotto told Wolfsburg: “Playing for a club as great as VfL from this summer makes me feel proud and humble at the same time. My goal is to support the team as best I can in midfield through hard work and creativity. It’s also important to me to bring joy to our fans. I can’t wait to start this new chapter in my career.”
A Norwegian, Swiss and Italian native, Vallotto chose to represent her birth country of Switzerland on the international stage. Since joining Hammarby, the 21-year-old has become a starter for the country after making her debut in September of 2023 against Italy. There is no doubt she will play a big part in their home Euros this summer, too.
VfL director of women’s football, Raf Kellerman said: ““Smilla is a creative attacking midfielder. With her abilities, I’m certain she can help our team from day one. At the same time, we want to give her the opportunity to realise her full potential with us.”
An excellent attacking midfielder, Vallotto will add creativity and energy to the Wolfsburg midfield. A player who has always had excellent partnerships with wingers and forwards across her teams, Wolfsburg is a great fit for this next step in her career.
For Hammarby, their model of nurturing and growing young talent has once again shown through.
