The newly crowned Women’s club of the year overturned defecits against and Real Madrid and Olympique Lyonness on their route to the UWCL final. They finished runners-up in the WSL, breaking the league’s attendance record and winning 15 of their 22 fixtures.
The Gunners had seven Women’s Ballon d’Or nominees, with Mariona Caldentey, Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly and Leah Williamson coming second, third, fifth and seventh respectively. Emily Fox came 25th, Frida Maanum 28th, and Steph Catley 29th.
Whilst England’s Sarina Wiegman picked up the Women’s Johan Cruyff Award, Slegers was also among those nominated.
