Arsenal fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat in last Sunday’s clash with West Ham United at Chigwell Construction Stadium. The clash in East London saw Rehanne Skinner’s Irons take all three points on the occasion, thanks to Hawa Cissoko’s finish inside of the area.

The defeat in East London puts Arsenal in an increasingly precarious position as the title race heats up, now trailing the league leaders in Chelsea by six points. Eidevall reflected on the loss, and expresses that his side “need to take ownership on all parts.”

“We have to look forward. We have to acknowledge what things we need to do better, what things we need to continue doing. Of course we are very frustrated with the result, it doesn’t entirely mirror the performance in that game.

But we need to take ownership of all parts in that performance that can help us get better results. There is plenty of things we can improve and do better on, so that is where we need to put our focus.”

Eidevall’s side now turn their attention to the FA Continental Tyres League Cup, as they travel to Dartford to face London City Lionesses on Wednesday evening. After having faced a major set back in their league campaign on Sunday, the Gunners will be eagerly looking to replenish their dominance.

Despite their upcoming opponents arriving in less threatening form in comparison to their usual WSL showdowns, Eidevall is not discounting the threat that the Lionesses may bring to Wednesday’s fixture.

“Experienced side, lots of WSL experience and International experience in the squad, both from the players and the manager. It’s always a competitive game, we need to be on our best day to get the result.”

Sunday’s defeat saw Arsenal at a loss for options as they worked to break down the low-block of West Ham’s last line. A low-block isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Gunners as they come up against lower standing sides, and is something they will likely be prepared to come up against on Wednesday evening.

Eidevall spoke in regards to how his side will draw on Sunday’s defeat, and bring such findings into their game with London City.

“Even if I think we create enough chances to win the game against West Ham- we need to be more efficient with the chances. I also think there are things in how we position, how we use the whole field to make it difficult for them to defend in a low block.

There are definitely things we need to improve on and we need to do that, so we learn from every game, winning or losing, and there were some crucial learning points from the West Ham game that we need to put into action.”

Arsenal come up against a dense schedule in the coming week, as the Gunners gear up to face Manchester City this coming Sunday in the FA Cup. Despite their focus being drawn pulled across multiple different competitions, Eidevall confirmed that his side will only remain tunnelled in on the task at hand.

“I have a very easy mindset as a coach, and that is that I prepare the team as good as possible for the next game that we’re going to play. We’re going to do our very best to win that football game, and that’s in essence always what you can control and that’s where we need to put our focus. So these games here, they have the same importance. In all three competitions, we want to do as well as possible.”
